Many of healthcare’s antibiotic-resistant pathogens of concern (VRE, ESBL, CRE, MRSA, etc.) and C. difficile can colonize the colon and be excreted within the healthcare environment during toileting and personal care provision. Safe management of human waste is essential to prevent the spread of pathogens and subsequent risk of harm from healthcare associated infections to both patients and healthcare staff.

This webinar discusses these issues and outlines suggestions for reducing the overall risk of spread of pathogens of concern.
By the end of this session participants will be able to:
- List at least 5 common healthcare pathogens that can be present in human waste and spread within healthcare settings by poor waste managemen
- Recognize common reservoirs of fecal pathogens within our healthcare settings
- Create protocols for handling human waste safely
- State at least two methods to limit the presence of pathogens of concern within healthcare settings
- Gain access to an A0 value guidance document, detailing the specific A0 values required for use with specific pathogens
