Minimizing Moments of Friction, Maximizing Quality of Life: Bringing Comfort Back To The Bathing Experience

Earn While You Learn: Continuing Education Certificate and One (1) Contact Hour Available!

This webinar continues and deepens the Dementia–Hygiene–Wellness narrative by reimagining bathing not as a routine task, but as a core component of the resident experience and a meaningful opportunity for whole-person, person-centered care. The session explores the essential role of hygiene in supporting health, dignity, and emotional well-being. Dementia is used intentionally as a guiding example to illuminate how changes in cognition and perception heighten the need for thoughtful, individualized approaches—while reinforcing that these principles apply to people of all abilities, diagnoses, and care needs when care begins with the person rather than the task.

Stories and examples are woven throughout the presentation to bring these concepts to life, illustrating how reimagining and intentionally designing the bathing experience can transform moments of fear, resistance, and distress into experiences of calm, cooperation, and connection for residents and caregivers alike. Through evidence-informed principles, participants explore how aligning environment, equipment, and care skills minimizes distress and maximizes comfort, safety, and dignity. The session also highlights the benefits for staff, demonstrating how elevated bathing experiences reduce physical and emotional strain, support confidence and consistency in care delivery, and contribute to improved efficiency and sustainability within long-term care homes, and other health care environments.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Reframe bathing as a core component of the resident experience, and its overall impact and influence on dignity, comfort, and overall wellness.
  • Recognize that the benefits of an elevated bathing experience can improve staff confidence, reduce physical strain, lower emotional fatigue, and maximize care delivery
  • Explain how aligning environment, equipment, and care skills can transform bathing experiences to one that minimizes distress, and maximizes comfort, safety, and dignity.
  • Recall how persons living with dementia or differing cognitive abilities, may shape the bathing experience.
  • Highlight how the right equipment matched with thoughtful care practices can reduce distress, and improve quality of care with and for individuals living with dementia, and other diverse physical and/or cognitive abilities
  • Demonstrate how wellness-focused, person-centered bathing supports sustainable, high-quality care for residents, staff, and organizations alike.

Attendees will have the opportunity to earn One (1) Contact Hour by participating the entire session and submitting the Evaluation Form at the end of the session. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing. Provider Number #CEP17028.
