ISO/TR – Patient Handling

In 2012 ISO published their first technical report with specific focus on safe patient handling.

The ISO (International Organization for Standardization) technical report ISO/TR 12296:2012 Ergonomics — manual handling of people in the healthcare sector, describes the multi-functional approach to patient handling including methods and guidelines for risk evaluation, organizational aspects, criteria for the choice and use of equipment, training, buildings and environment in relation to risk estimation, and evaluation of patient handling interventions.

The technical report refers to the use of Mobility Gallery and the Care Thermometer developed by Arjo. The publication provides strong evidence for safe patient handling intervention with a good base for future guidelines and legislation.
